St Louis Arch

Tuesday, after the Zoo, we went to the St Louis Arch. It is on the banks of the Mississippi, and is taller than the buildings around it...It is so big that you see it way before you actually get into downtown.
It is in the middle of a park, and the lobby and Museum of Westward Expansion is underground.
To get to the top, you ride in a "tram" that is kind of oval and has 5 seats. It is so small that I bumped my head going in on the way up and down. It feels a lot like being in a roller coaster, but you are confined, and thankfully, the bottom doesn't fall out underneath you. As you can see, Paige was a wee bit nervous.
Frank switched seats with her, and she got more nervous...
And I have a pic of her REALLY nervous, but she didn't want it on here!

At the top, there is sort of an enclosed bridge, and it has windows that overlook the city and the river. Here is Busch Stadium.
The sky line...see, it's up really high! Some of the buildings had roof top pools, and that was cool to see.
This is the Old Courthouse...it's a museum you can tour.
This is a sculpture about the building of the Arch.
After we went up in the arch, we toured the Museum of Westward Expansion which is in the same building. This buffalo is HUGE, and the picture does not do it justice.
A covered wagon, obviously.
Stagecoach
Floyd's Bluff
The museum was like a huge circle, and all the way around were pictures of places that Lewis and Clark wrote about and excerpts from their journals. Because my maiden name is Floyd, I had to get a pic of this one. It was all really neat. The perimeter was about their journey, and then inside the circle, were all kinds of relics from that time.
This was another place that Frank really seemed to enjoy, and I'm very glad we were able to experience it.

I love the Arch! I went to school in Columbia and lots of my friends lived in St. Louis so I've been a number of times- it's very cool.
